STOP TPP!!

10,000 people's Rally with Candles in TOKYO, JAPAN

----Just before Prime Minister Noda's visit to US-----

We, the National Council for TPP, STOP TPP!! Committee meeting of 10,000 people with candles, and Coalition for Anti TPP Civil Action 4.25, will hold a meeting called "STOP TPP!! 10,000 people's rally with candles" and organize a demonstration at Hibiya Outdoor Large Music Hall on Wed 25th April 2012.

We are concerned the negative impacts that TPPA (Transpacific Economic Partnership Agreement) has on our lives, communities, and country; it would result in the decline of agriculture and fishery, deteriorating working conditions, and disruption of the health system. It is reported that Japan's participation in TPPA negotiations will not be put on agendas during PM Noda’s visit to the USA at the end of this April.

However, we still fear that Tokyo aims to join the negotiations without providing sufficient information on TPPA to Japanese people. We need to once again strongly oppose TPPA.

A wide range of civil society groups joins this action as a network. It includes citizens' groups, consumers' cooperatives, agricultural cooperatives, trade unions, NGOs, and farmers' groups (37 groups in total as of 19th April). We would like to stress that this network is much broader than previous actions against free trade agendas in Japan. It is a historic opportunity to appeal "STOP TPP!!! We welcome your contribution for coverage.

Prior to the meeting with candles, we will hold a press conference on Tuesday 24th April. We will inform the time and date when it is confirmed.
